Brooklyn-based guitarist and composer Cole Cotton makes his recording debut with Idle Days, a five-track collection of original music shaped by improvisation, contemporary jazz, and Cotton’s emerging compositional voice.
Originally from Colorado Springs, Cotton moved to New York City in 2021, where his musical direction developed through studies with Reggie Workman, Buster Williams, Steve Cardenas, and Pasquale Grasso, alongside an increasing immersion in contemporary composition and improvised music. His performances have since taken him from New York’s creative music community to the Vision Festival and Switzerland’s Internationales Jazzfestival Bern.
On Idle Days, Cotton is joined by Kayla Kessler on bass, Russell Markey on drums, and Phineas Davenport on piano. The album was co-produced by Cotton and Steve Cardenas and recorded by Michael Brorby at Acoustic Recording in Brooklyn on July 20, 2026.
Idle Days introduces an artist finding his own path through jazz, drawing from its traditions while pursuing music that is personal, exploratory, and distinctly his own.
